Well, I am taking a little break from my exciting staff development day to do a little blogging. I thought I would actually brag on myself for once! As I mentioned earlier, I am taking a photography class. I recently completed my first assignment and have received a critique from my instructor. I really enjoyed the assignment because I had several of my questions answered. I learned how to make the camera focus on an object that I choose, and I learned how to make the background more or less in focus. You do the latter by changing the aperture, btw.
My assignment was to shoot two shots of the same scene using different apertures. I shot what I call my first bloom of spring, but it's actually the second because a certain 3 y/o who we all know and love picked the first bloom.
The below photo has more of a blurred background, so you focus on the flower.
This one is really a picture of the entire scene as the background details are sharper.
I am really excited for two reasons. First of all, I have thought of so many cute shots I wanted to take of the kids, but in auto mode on my camera, I couldn't get the camera to focus where I wanted it to. Secondly, I am really excited because the top photo was chosen as a photo of the week for my class, and the instructor gave me great feedback. It's not THAT big of a deal to be photo of the week because any number can be chosen, but it does mean that my photo illustrates the objective of the lesson. I was really nervous that I would have terrible pictures and not be able to do any of the assignments, so this has really boosted my confidence. I'm excited to take a lot of pictures this week!
